Many of you know that we sadly lost our first daughter, Lucy, on the day she was born on 6th Feb 2006. After a very healthy pregnancy I went into labour on my due date but tragically had a placental abruption during the delivery. Lucy suffered brain damage due to oxygen starvation and died at 6 hours old. 

In the very dark early days following Lucy's death, the charity SANDs (Still Birth and Neonatal Death Society) were a great source of comfort. SANDs campaign to understand and ultimately reduce the number of babies that die in the UK every year. Shockingly, 1 in every 137 babies in the UK are stillborn or die in the first 4 years of life and many, like Lucy, are completely preventable.

When we lost Lucy I promised myself I would do something in her memory to raise money for SANDs, and almost 10 years on I now feel the time is right to take on what will be an emotional personal challenge.

You will know what a keen runner I am, but I've recently been suffering from a bit of running apathy so I've decided to give myself a kick up the bum and get my act together. I've run a few half marathons in the last couple of years so the next logical step would be to run a marathon. However, I have no desire to run that distance, half marathon is my limit and one I feel is achievable. 

So, I've decided that to remember Lucy on what would have been her 10th birthday, I'm going to run 10 half marathons in 12 months starting with Warrington (my birth town and venue of my first half marathon) on 20th September..more dates/venues to follow.
