Story
I am raising funds in memory of a very special little girl, Ellie Mai Mowforth. Ellie was a pupil at the same school as my daughter and they become good friends - everyone was friends with Ellie. On her 6th birthday, was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour - Diffuse Pontine Glioma. Ellie had radiotherapy and chemotherapy to help to shrink the tumour which bought her and her family time to make their remaining months together as special and memorable as possible. Although Ellie was extremely poorly, she would light up a room with her sunny disposition. On several occasions she would come and see my little girl to play - sometimes having come straight out of hospital - I can recall one occasion where Ellie had had a blood transfusion and she told the doctors to 'hurry up please - as she needed to go to play with Eliza!' Through the support and love of her parents, and sheer determination of Ellie - she did not become a victim of her illness. She stoically carried on - she called the shots , literally, and on several occasions I was amazed to see her - chasing around with her friends at parties, dancing and on one occasion - after she had been at our house - I can remember her running down the main street in Cottingham towards her house - and the struggle I had to keep up with her!! I have a lasting image of her looking over her shoulder at me and laughing - I was worried that she would fall or trip - but of course she didn't and her peals of laughter and giggles just rang out into the street... That's the image I will have as I face the challenge of the marathon next month . Ellie didn't quit - she just took everything in her stride , despite her pain and illness. Ellie enjoyed her trip to Lapland , helped by the Wish Upon a Star Charity - and I would like to raise as much funds as possible to help other families in similar situations as Ellie's family.
