This September I will be taking part in a charity cycle challenge from London to Paris to raise for a a new local charity Jersey Stroke Support Ltd.  

Its 10 years since the first London to Paris cycle challenge which raised money for a stroke charity.  Unfortunately I was not able to take part in the first challenge as it's also 10 years since my husband Steve had a stroke, a few days short of his 41st birthday.

Roll forward 10 years and life is the same but different and there have been challenges in the years that followed but we will always be externally grateful for the support and compassion Steve and our family received in the days, months and years after.

Cycling has become a favourite hobby and I'm looking forward to the challenge whilst raising money for Jersey Stroke Support.  I will be self funding the trip and all money raised will stay in Jersey and go directly to the charity. 

A little more information on the new charity which will provide vital support and guidance to stroke survivors and their families. 

The London to Paris 10th Anniversary Cycle is raising vital funds for Jersey Stroke Support in order for the charity to deliver post stroke reviews on Island. 

Stroke is a  medical emergency and the leading cause of adult disability in the UK. Over 130 people in Jersey suffer a stroke each year. Jersey Stroke Support aim to offer person centred post stroke reviews approximately 6 months following a stroke in order to assess clients needs, offer support and sign post to other agencies and charities. The charity will submit data to the 'Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme’ (SSNAP) which is a national healthcare quality improvement programme,

The stated aims of Jersey Stroke Support are to provide support and assist stroke survivors and their families after a stroke and help keep them safe; and to raise the profile on the Island of Jersey about stroke and stroke prevention.
