Story
Hello to all my family, friends and sponsors. Welcome to my fundraising page.
In May 2010, my mother and our family lost a dear friend to pancreatic cancer having been diagnosed only months before.
Sally (Sarah) Douglas was a wonderful, bubbly, salt-of-the-earth lady. A wife, mother, grandmother and true friend - she always had a smile, a joke and a never ending positive outlook even while suffering from this cruel illness.
At the time I knew very little of this type of cancer. It wasn't until early in 2014 through social media that I had my eyes opened through campaigners such as Maggie Watts, Kerry Irvine and Grainne O'Neill to name but a few, all of whom have lost loved ones.
This illness has claimed the lives of so many wonderful people and continues to do so with little to no change in survival rates over 40 years.
Having attended the Parliamentary debate in Westminster last September it quickly became clear to me that many MP's support the aims of PanCanUK - which are to double the five year survival rate and to change the NHS experience of pancreatic cancer patients from being the worst to the best - but as is nearly always the case in matters such as these, funding to support research and raising awareness has in the past been low.
But that MUST change and WE can help achieve this.
It is for these reasons that I feel compelled to help PanCanUK in whatever way I am able to make more people aware of symptoms and statistics eg. do you know that by 2030 pancreatic cancer will have overtaken breast cancer as the UK's fourth cancer killer? This is why it is so important for us to act now.
So, my tandem skydive from 10,000 feet is on Friday 1st May in honour of Sally, and to raise much needed awareness and funds.
Also I will wear (amongst other attire!!) 'THE TIE' - for more details on THAT, I invite you to please visit -
http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/FOFA-JD-50TIEMy employer will kindly meet my fundraising for the skydive £ for £ (up to £500) therefore please may I invite you to take a few minutes now to sponsor me.
My charity will receive your money quickly and easily and if you are a UK taxpayer an extra 25% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support,
Lisa
