Story
This is my 32nd year living with an ostomy. At age 19, having this life-changing, body-altering surgery was a huge blow to my confidence and self-esteem. I had no support outside of my family members and closest friends. I did not know that support existed. After learning about Calgary Ostomy Society in 2006, my life as an ostomate began to change. I had finally found ‘my people’. The moment I heard about the existence of Ostomy Canada Youth camp I was all-in for Ostomy Canada dedication. I have dedicated a lot of time and energy into volunteering for Ostomy Canada in many aspects but especially for Youth camp. It is my biggest wish that no child (no person living with an ostomy) goes without learning about the value of Ostomy Canada Youth camp. It truly is a magical place that has changed many people’s lives. You know me and my wishes are to ensure that every person receives the support and advocacy that Ostomy Canada Society can provide
Help change a person's life, help raise awareness, help raise funds. All funds raised create and enhance the valuable work that Ostomy Canada Society is doing.
Let's make certain that no child will ever be denied the camp experience where they learn acceptance, self-esteem, confidence building, make new and life-long friends, personal medical care for their own bodies, and simply have a lot of fun.
Help reduce the stigma surrounding people who poop and pee differently. We are people, people the same as you except we are living with altered bodies. We are making great strides and it is all thanks to YOU!
Ostomy Canada Society can help you. Join us if you need support, if you can lend support, if you have time to give and if you are able to help spread awareness for the 70,000 - 150,000 (statistics vary per source) Canadians who live life to the fullest with their ostomy enabling them to do so.
