Story
Back towards the end of 2010, in my battle to get rid of my excess weight, I decided to sign up for a 10k run for charity. I wanted to pick a local children’s charity and I found out about Forget Me Not Trust. At the time they were providing home care for children with life limiting conditions as well as providing much needed help and support for their families. They were also just in the process of laying down the foundations of their new hospice, Russell House, which was being built in our area to provide respite care, the nearest children’s hospices were Martin House in Leeds and Frances House in Manchester. With two young children I couldn’t imagine what these families would be going through and I wanted to do my bit to help and support this worthwhile cause. Little did I know that tragedy would strike closer to home and a dear friend of mine would come to need the services and support of the Forget Me Not Trust. When her beautiful son Tomek was born they provided the support and help needed to enable him to come home and spend precious time with his mummy and daddy, giving them beautiful memories that they will cherish forever.
This year, a few colleagues and I have decided to attempt our first ever Triathlon at Blenheim Palace for this remarkable cause. Having entered the “SuperSprint” we will have a 400m open water swim in Blenheim Lake followed by a 13.2km bike ride and 2.9km run around the Blenheim palace grounds, hopefully without tripping up too much through transitions between each section! I am not the strongest swimmer and I don’t think any of us are relishing the prospect of jumping into Pugneys, Wakefield in May as part of our training but we are all determined to do our best and raise as much vitally needed funds as we can. Thank you for your support <3
