Update:
This time next week I will be getting ready to join the 60,000 competitors on the starting line of the Great North Run. It will be a highly emotional day as the last few months have been beyond tough. A week before the MK Marathon my Dad sadly passed away. I just didn’t have the mental strength to run & coupled with recurrent Achilles strains decided to pull out. Grace & Holly smashed their 5K race though and both got PB’s!! Since then I have struggled to get my running ‘mojo’ back & must admit have done very little training for this half marathon. It will be my slowest ever time but I have the determination to get to the finish line. I am doing this for Erin who is showing amazing strength dealing with everything that life is throwing in her way. Unfortunately she hasn’t reacted well to the radiotherapy she received in March & until we meet with her Consultant next week we’re unsure what the next steps are.
Thank you for your support, will let you know how I get on! Lisa xx
I’ve been a runner for over 25 yrs but haven’t had a real purpose to enter a big event since 2012. Running The Great North Run has been a personal goal for many years. Knowing I will be raising money doing something that I love will keep me going. I know that doing this run will be a great challenge for me (both physically and mentally) but it’s no challenge compared to what other families face when dealing with a diagnosis of a brain tumour.
I just want to share with you my motivation behind raising money for this particular charity:
In September 21 my eldest daughter Erin had a fairground accident & sustained a facial injury. A CT scan showed that the only damage was a broken nose but by a twist of fate it also discovered a completely asymptomatic intraventricular meningioma. Although it’s a non cancerous tumour, if left undiscovered it could become life changing or at worst life threatening. She’s had 3 monitoring scans since the accident but unfortunately the last one showed an increase in size. The location of the meningioma is in a very tricky position so surgery isn’t an option without risking her sight. So, currently we are waiting for a date to start radiotherapy with the aim to stop the tumour from growing any further.
It’s been a hard year or so for Erin but she’s got a really positive approach to dealing with her news. A very much ‘it is what it is’ mindset & so far is doing incredibly well. I’m extremely proud of her maturity & mental resilience ❤️❤️❤️
If I can help other patients & their families by raising money for the charity, it will be my way of giving something back. My way to give much needed support. Any donations, however small, are much appreciated and will help give families (in much worse situations than us) the help and care they need.
I’ll also be running the MK marathon on 1st May & Grace will be taking part in her first 5K race at the same event. We’re hoping to gather further donations for the charity. If you would like to donate you can use this page but Grace will also be setting up her own just giving page.
Thank you!!
Lisa xx
