Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2018 my (and my families) life was turned upside down by a simple roller skating accident in Abu Dhabi. My feet went from underneath me, landed full force on my bottom and felt like my body had split into two. I instantly had no feeling waist down, and after being rushed to NMC Royal Khalifa hospital was told the dreaded news that I might never walk again as I’d suffered a spinal cord injury - bone fragments from my fractured vertebrae T12 had gone into my spinal cord.
So, here we are 27 months later. After 5 months in NMC hospital UAE, then The Walton Centre Liverpool, then Southport Spinal Unit and intensive rehab and physiotherapy (continuing to this day with Sarah Bolton at Warrington & Halton Hospital) I am now happy in the fact I can cope with my situation now and fully accepting of my life as it is.
I am confined to a wheelchair but am fortunate enough that I have sensation back and can stand and walk aided for very short distances - my Spinal Consultant Dr Lari says it’s non functional walking. I’m ok with this, I’ve adapted to it and I’ll never give up hoping that one day I might just get there.
So, when I saw Captain Tom Moore on tv, I was so moved I had the idea that I’d just set myself this little goal and if I can raise money for the NHS to say a thank you for everything you did for me then I’d just have to do it!!
So for all the wonderful NHS who are working so tirelessly right now in this terrible situation and for those who helped me (you know who you all are!!), THANK YOU
