Story
1 in 6 people over 80 have dementia and someone develops dementia every 3 minutes in the UK. Alzheimer's and Vascular Dementia are the two main forms.
Brain degenerative diseases of any kind are utterly devastating, heart wrenching and cruel for the person's life it snatches away and for their loved ones around them. My Mum was diagnosed at the young age of 64 with a rare form of a brain degenerative disease called Cortex Ganglion Degeneration. Her pain and the pain we shared as a family left scars so deep that do not heal.
I have been inspired by my amazing friends who have taken on their marathons, for anyone who has seen me run I could never follow in their footsteps but walking a marathon in the wonderous Brecon Beacons is something I hope I can do!
Any donation you can give for the Alzheimer's Society, however small, will be so very much appreciated. The Alzheimer's Society are undergoing research to look at how it might be prevented and diagnosed earlier and how the quality of life can be improved for people living with the condition. The more that is understood means the more that can be done to help people to stay independent and live the life they want for as long as possible.
