Story
On Sunday 2nd October 2022, Linus, myself and a team of St Cathrine’s runners will be taking on the iconic London Marathon to raise funds for St Catherine's Hospice.
St Catherine's Hospice in Crawley is a local charity with a big ambition. Linus and I have worked closely with the charity through work and have seen first hand their fantastic work in the community. Their vision is a world where everyone facing death and bereavement can do so informed, supported and pain free.
As a family we have first hand experience of the amazing support - both practical and emotional - that St Catherine’s provide.
While my Nan was well enough to be cared for at home she attended the Day Centre at the hospice - it provided a safe environment for her to discuss her highs and lows with other people that could entirely empathise. When Nan needed professional care she was admitted to St Catherine’s. The care she received was second to none. As a family we were anxious that Nan maintained her dignity and was made as comfortable as possible - both of these wishes were met with the the highest level of kindness right to the end. There was always time made for family members during the more challenging of times.
We will never be able to thank St Catherine’s enough for the incredible work they do that Nan benefitted from. In an effort to go some way to helping them to continue to support other people I am about to go through possibly the most physically gruelling challenge I have ever set myself - dragging my old buddy Linus along for the ride.
We had originally planned to run the marathon in 2020 but due to the pandemic we have had to push it back a few years. Linus has now returned home to Australia, but is making the trip back for the run.
We are absolutely determined to cross the finish line - hopefully within the 8 hour limit - and we would be grateful for any donations you could spare for St Catherine’s.
