Story
I am taking part in our Lloyds Banking Group Charity of the Year event to raise funds for Alzheimer's Society/Alzheimer's Scotland where colleagues will cycle from various Group Operation sites starting on Thursday 12th September visiting several other sites 'on route' and then arriving in Barnwood, Gloucester on Friday 13th September. Colleagues who have volunteered as cyclists will take part in several 'legs' of the journey and each leg will be around approximately 15 to 20 miles.
This whole operation doesn't just involve cyclists, there will be a whole 'entourage' in the form of drivers for support vehicles and control room operatives out to make sure our cyclists are well looked after and supported throughout each leg. Everyone's involvement is fundamental to our one goal - to raise as much funds for Alzheimers and be part of the fantastic team comradery whilst taking part in this whole event.
My involvement will be to 'man' the Control Room in Barnwood, Gloucester on both days which is a key role within this whole event. I will be monitoring the progress of the cyclists, when they set off and when they complete their 'leg', taking updates and clarifying who is taking over support for the cyclists at each 'leg' and generally being the first point of contact for everyone involved.
I'm delighted to be involved with raising funds for Alzheimer's Society/Alzheimer's Scotland and speak from experience when I say this illness is a devastating illness especially to the sufferer but also to family and friends. My Gran suffered from vascular dementia for 15 years and watching her decline in stages throughout this time was truly upsetting. Alzheimer's Society/Alzheimer's Scotland offer invaluable support to sufferers, carers and families affected by dementia and also fund research into improving the quality of life for people with dementia. Please dig deep and help me to raise money for this fantastic cause and thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
