Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I’m running the 2021 Great North Run in an effort to raise funds for St Benedict’s Hospice. This cause is very close to my heart after my brother, Darran was diagnosed 7 years ago with the condition Spino-cerebellar ataxia 17 and we came to depend on the expertise and care provided by Dr Lee and all the staff at St Benedict’s like many other local families.
SCA17 is a neurological degenerative condition with no cure and no clear cause in my Brother’s case. It’s likened to Huntington’s disease in its severity and the devastating toll it takes on sufferers and their families with symptoms including immobility, poor balance, eyesight, memory, communication problems and inco-ordination.
St Benedicts Hospice in Sunderland offers free care, advice and support for patients, and their families, who have a life-limiting illness. St Benedicts Hospice has a long history and our experienced and professional, clinical and volunteer teams are committed to providing the highest level of care in the future.
I’m not a natural runner and the training is gruelling but I am determined to cross that finish line to raise as much as I can for this truly amazing place.
My brother will be my inspiration to get me around the course, he now struggles to mobilise room to room- but for him and for all the people currently in need of support from St Benedict’s Hospice - this girl can!!
