Story
I'm running for a charity close to my heart, The Cystinosis Foundation, as my daughter, Lauren, suffers with the condition.
Cystinosis is a rare genetic disorder. It occurs when the mechanism removing excess cystine (an amino acid) fails. It can lead to kidney problems and progress to other body parts causing blindness, major organ failure and impaired growth. In the past, it was rare for sufferers to survive into adulthood.
Sufferers usually adhere to a strict daily medicine routine, which itself makes them feel ill. Lauren had one of her dads kidneys 17 years ago and has since gone on to have two children.
