Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As most of you may know, I, along with many many people, have been directly affected by Alzheimer's. I lost my dear Dad at 16, from this horrific disease in 2007, after a long, long battle. We were lucky that we could all chip in and take care of him at home (my Mum doing the bulk of the work), which for a staggering amount of people, just is not an option. I cannot quite believe that there is still no cure.
Taking into account that this year, there will be 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, and by 2025 there will be over 1 million people affected by the disease in the UK, we need to find a cure.
Even if we don't find a cure, finding a drug that would delay the onset of dementia by 5 years would HALVE the number of deaths. This would save 30,000 lives PER YEAR.
Alzheimer's research is so unfunded. I am not saying this cause is more worthy than other charities -- I'm saying that there needs to be as much awareness and fundraising.
Let's beat this arsehole.
