Story
A registered charity and an independent cinema. I have had the pleasure of being associated with Light House Media Centre in the heart of Wolverhampton, for the best part of five years. I very much consider it home. Possibly more than the place i'm meant to call home.
It's a wonderful facilitator of eclectic cinema first and foremost, as well as being a tight-knit community hub for a variety of groups and events. Language cafes. Singing For Lung Health. Vinyl nights. The list goes on. I only have to engage with customers on a daily basis to appreciate just how precious this place is, particularly for our older supporters which is epitomised by the turnouts on midweek matinees. Personally? It has been the safest of havens for me in the darkest of times, working within a team that i very much consider family at this point.
We have been no strangers to adversity. As with many arts venues, we have been the subject of multiple funding cuts and have been increasingly reliant on the generosity of the general public. Now with the Coronavirus crisis and an enforced closure, we are having to be quite proactive in how we continue to keep Light House going.
The very least i can do. I have decided to do a 24 hour film marathon through the streaming service Netflix, to help raise funds for Light House in this uncertain time. I am looking to do this on Saturday 4th April. Two weeks after the setup of this page, so i appreciate it's rather time sensitive.
The rules are as follows:
1) A film that is of course available through Netflix UK. You should find the full Netflix UK catalogue HERE..
https://uk.newonnetflix.info/catalogue
2) The films have to be within a 2 hour running time (120 mins)
3) 12 films to begin with and the FIRST 12 people who donate will get to select the films i have to watch. So when you donate. Be sure to specify the film you have chosen. I have faith in your tastes...
*Depending on the total running time of the initial 12 films chosen. This may increase slightly to fulfill the 24 hour commitment*
Of course between films. I'll be giving little vlog updates to keep you in the loop of how the marathon is going. Excuse if i look rough in advance towards the latter stages..
On a final note. A huge thank you for any shares of this page and of course any generous donations made.
Stay safe and #LoveLightHouse.
