Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page we appreciate your support.

WE DID IT!!!

480 teams of four started, only 265 teams of four finished - We were one of them!!!

We finished in 210th place.

Of the 1920 people who started a fantastic 1513 people finished.

On behalf of the team I would like to say a big thankyou to all of the support crew - we couldn't have done it without you!

Comments from Diana

That was amazing.  We were amazing.  What geat fun.  I can't quite believe that we actually did it and finished as a tream of four, it was a brilliant effort.  Frances had 3 sets of poles with her, I had left mine behind, I can't thank her enough for lending me a pair.  What really made it worth the while was the volunteers and Gurkhas constantly supporting and smiling as they came out to greet us; there was such enthusiasm from all involved.  It was all incredibly well organised.  The countryside was stunning, apart from the downhill rocky bits!  Thanks to Dave for all his map reading and pushing us along to make sure we finished.  Our own support team were out of this world, thanks guys. My last comment: Compeed was worth the money!

Comments from Dave & Rae

"They said it would be a once in a lifetime event and we both hope they were right !! What an achievement from all of our team especially Frances for getting us all organized and Diana for not only stepping in at the breach but raising all of that sponsorship. As for the support crew we cannot praise them enough from Burg offering cuddles the night before (suddenly 100k doesn't seem so frightening), through Dave O - Providing so much food we had to start sharing with other teams, Bill- The Bacon Butty King, Sandra - The Bacon Butty Queen, Tim- I know it's in here somewhere, Len - Who nearly gave up his Guinness for the cause, and Burg (again)  - The support car is down there on the left, or is it right ? The biggest thing the crew did was to always be cheerful which gave us such a lift at each check point.  THANKS SO MUCH and we are looking forward to next year when we reverse the roles !! Only joking....or are we "

Comments from Frances

What a fantastic effort was made by everyone involved.  We actually made it to the end, all four of us!  This had been so long in the planning that I couldn't quite believe I was actually taking part at last.  There were times when it felt like I was having an out of body experience, my legs were moving but I was not quite sure how!  There were definitely times that my  tank was on empty, in fact I was running on fumes but the support of the team & crew got me through, thanks everyone.  I don't know if the Oxfam volunteers realise it but they gave us such a lift as we approached each checkpoint by cheering and clapping.  The Gurkhas all along the route and CP's all offered encouragement.  Thanks to them all.  Our support crew were fantastic we would definitely not have made it through without them.  Just seeing Dave at the top of the 'wonky' hill leading up to CP9 was enough to put a smile on my face at what was definitely one of my lowest moments. Thanks again to one and all - well done evryone!

Trailwalker was an enormous undertaking for those of us who were walking (Frances Dave D, Rae and Diana) and also for the Support team (Dave O,Kev, Sandra, Tim & Len). It involved trecking 100k (62 miles in old money) equivalent to walking two and a half marathons and the climbs adding up to the height of Ben Nevis.  We got through it by a combination of team work, many changes of socks, tubs of vasaline, blister plasters, bucket loads of tea & coffee, and a ton of cakes and sweets.
