‘Like most people lucky enough to have a career in professional sport I believed I was bulletproof.
I could deal with whatever life threw at me.
That was until March 2020 in a hospital in Cape Town, where I heard the words:
“I’m very sorry Mr Moles but the infection in your foot has started to spread aggressively and if we don’t act quickly and amputate your leg, just below the knee, there is a significant risk you could lose your whole leg and possibly your life."
12 hours later I was waking up to a very different future outlook than the previous day. Fortunate to be one of life’s optimists and fighters I wasn’t usually short of a Plan B or a contingency plan, but this was different.
The answer came from my great mate Tim Munton, who called and said, “The Professional Cricketers' Trust is going to help you through this."
Easy words to say but you can’t believe the impact their support has had on me both practical and financial. The team has been there for me, day and night, to guide and support me, from the most trivial challenges to the life-impacting ones.
I am a testament to the fact; Once a Member, Always a Member and when you least expect it you need them most – The Professional Cricketers' Trust is there for its members.
I have a real reason to want to give back by completing the #charity10for10 and I want to speak directly to all players, past and present, if I can complete 10k to raise much-needed funds for The Trust, I know most of you can!
Please support your charity, you really will never know when you might need it’
