Story
Hello!
On the 7th April 2019, I will be running the Manchester Marathon - All 26.219 miles of it (hopefully) - in support of MOVE.
In March 2018, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.
For those of you who know my mum, Jane, you know what she's like, and for those of you who don't...well, she's completed an Iron Man distance triathlon and ran quite a few marathons (not to mention ultramarathons, of course). Jane finds joy in creating challenges for herself in all aspects of life, especially through movement.
Cancer really tried it's best to stop that.
If you didn't know, Chemotherapy sucks, and I wasn't even the one going through it. Yet, mum still managed a few Parkruns in the process. Having a mastectomy and lymph node clearance is kind of sore too - don't worry she was back run/walking after about 2 weeks - quite enough time sitting on the sofa making a blanket, thank you.
Exercise may not seem like an important aspect of cancer treatment, but it has the ability to help people both physically and mentally. This is why I would like to run the Manchester Marathon in support of MOVE.
MOVE is a charity dedicated to supporting children and young people living with cancer through the power of exercise and sport. For those of us who are healthy, we often take our amazing bodies for granted, but it isn't so easy when you're struggling through chemotherapy or in the process of recovering from an operation (or few).
84% is the current survival rate for young people living with cancer and more people than ever are living with and beyond cancer. MOVE help children and young people facing cancer to take control of their lives, create positive change, and focus on what they can do.
