Bupa Great Manchester Run 2014 · 18 May 2014 ·
I will be running the Bupa Manchester 10k again on Sunday 18th May in memory of my brother's close friend Martyn Lee who sadly passed away suddenly in June 2011 shortly before his 18th birthday. Those of you who know me well will also know that my dad sadly passed away in 1999 from a heart aneurysm.
The charity I am fundraising for is Cardiac Risk in the Young, CRY was founded in 1995 to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to young sudden cardiac death or sudden death syndrome. Did you know every week at least 12 young people die suddenly from un diagnosed heart conditions!!! CRY are promoting heart screening, ECG testing programmes and medical research to reduce these numbers.
Running is not a natural strength of mine but the only thing that gets me through the tough training and race day is knowing that I am doing it for a worthwhile cause and in memory of Martyn and my dad, who I'm sure would have loved to have been part of it.
So dig deep and let's hope I can smash my best time of 56:16 from last year and you never know I might get another personal pat on the back from Haile Gebrselassie....I did last year :-D
