The Big Heart Bike Ride in Africa · 18 June 2011
Lianne Gets on her bike to fight heart Disease
I am taking part in a tough cycle ride through the east African country of Tanzania to raise funds to fight heart disease. I’m joining the fourth Big Heart Bike ride which is a unique cycling challenge to raise funds to help heart disease through the work of four UK charities. Men and women of all ages who are prepared to raise sponsorship, train and get fit are invited to take part. I’m doing the bike ride for the people who are unable to. The Big Heart Bike ride in Africa is a challenge- it’s not a holiday. Funds raised by the challenging 400km ride through Tanzania will be divided equally between The British Heart Foundation, CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), Tiny Tickers and H.E.A.R.T UK. The charities work ranges from detecting heart problems in babies before they are born and supporting families coping with cardiac disease in young people through to funding prevention work, providing specialist facilities and equipment and funding life saving research into the causes and treatment of heart disease. The Big Heart Bike Ride in Africa takes place from 18-26 June 2011 and will be an amazing five day cycling adventure. Starting in the port of Dar es Salaam the route will take participants through the nature reserves, wonderful countryside and local villages to the foot of the Ngura mountain range. Averaging 75 kilometres each day and dealing with dirt tracks and off road cycling conditions everyone will earn their sponsorship donations.
