Story
On October 2nd this year I will be taking part in the London Marathon 2022. I am raising funds for The charity Mind to help them continue their vital work in supporting those struggling with poor mental health.
Until recently I knew very little about the subject of mental health, and was almost oblivious to the devastating effects poor mental health can have on someone’s life.
Almost 3 years ago now, I had my first ‘black cloud’ moment. I didn’t understand what was happening to me, what I was feeling and why I was feeling it. A black cloud is the best way I can describe it, and in my darkest moments it has been hard to see a way through.
With the support of some good Drs, therapists, and information and support through charities such as Mind and the Samaritans I have become educated and more aware of what has been happening for me. I have a clear understanding of what I need to do to keep the ‘dark cloud’ away.
My story isn’t unique, and as I’ve found out during my own struggles is it's actually very common. It saddens me to think of anyone suffering like I have, but it also offers some solace to know I’m not alone.
If you can relate to my story or a friend or family member are struggling, please remember you are far from alone. Reach out, talk to a friend, family member, colleague, team mate or speak to a charity like Mind or the Samaritans. It’s the first step to making things better.
I am running this marathon in memory of someone that made a huge impact on me during my recovery and supported me and helped me in my darkest hour. This is for you Steve!
If you can donate anything, believe me it is greatly appreciated!
Now I better get training!
Thank you, Liam x
