Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The Gorkha region of Nepal is one of the World’s poorest areas and its people suffered greatly during the 2015 earthquakes which devastated the Country. Hundreds of thousands of families in this area, many related to the world famous Ghurkhas, are still suffering the repercussions today with villages in the region lacking basic shelter, water and sanitation.
The charity, Raleigh International, is planning a major expedition to the Region this Summer and I have volunteered to join the group, for my first expedition, on a seven-week programme to participate in a comprehensive village restoration venture, building gravity-fed clean water systems, and health and sanitation infrastructure.
Most people will be aware of the great contribution and sacrifice the Gurkhas made for the UK, particularly the tremendous part they have played in every major UK conflict over many decades. The Gorkha region gives its name to this famous Regiment and many veterans now reside there.
Over the next few weeks, I will be raising money for this Raleigh International programme in anticipation of joining the expedition in July. To raise the necessary funds, I will undertake a 24 hour exercise bike ride at the end of April. Then, in May, I will climb the equivalent 832m height of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, on an indoor climbing wall.
I am now asking for sponsorship to support the expedition. All of the donations made will go directly to funding the project. Please note that I will be covering my own travel costs and that all donations made go wholly to the charity.
Thank you
Liam
