Story
Being told your child has cancer is not something you ever envisage as a parent, but that is where we found ourselves in late October 2022.
Our beautiful daughter Arabella who was 5 at the time, was diagnosed with an extra renal Wilms tumour that had spread to her lungs.
During our time on the Piam Brown ward in Southampton General Hospital, we were introduced to and supported by Abby’s Heroes, a wonderful charity that support the families in the same position we found ourselves in. Whether it be parking passes for the first few weeks, lunches on the ward, Dominoes Pizza on a Friday or just a shoulder to cry on, the work they do is invaluable and I am choosing to once again throw my support behind them
I don’t like heights and I don’t like flying so I’ve decided to jump out of a plane at 15000ft. I’ve watched my daughter battle this dreadful disease head on barely complaining once and so now it’s time to tackle my fears head on and raise some money for this fantastic charity. Please give anything you can.
Much love and appreciation,
Liam
Every year, having discovered the news that their child has been diagnosed with cancer, families enter either the Piam Brown Ward for 0-16yr olds, or the TYA Teenage and Young Adults Ward 16-24yrs at UHS University Hospital Southampton. The whole ethos of Abby's Heroes is to place our arm around the shoulders of these families and support them during this journey. We offer Financial Grants to help with the financial burden of having your child diagnosed, Practical support, Memory Making grants, Welfare Packs, Counselling service for the entire family, as well as two evening meals and a picnic lunch every week. Every single penny is vital to help Abby's Heroes provide these services.
