Story
Hello,
Thank you for visiting my page.
I've never done this before, so apologies for the abruptness and my
unorthodox approach to fundraising!
I have signed up to undertake the London 100 bike ride in May 2023 to raise money in honour of my Dad who sadly lost his life to Motor Neurones Disease (MND).
It was, and still is, something that I find difficult to put into words or come to terms with. It is further compounded by the fact that my Dad was a fit and abled man in his 50's, although he'd say he looked like he was more in his early 40's, with lots to live for.
My Dad cycled a lot before I arrived, in his teens and 20’s cycling for Bristol in the national cycle speedway league. Later on in life, Dad would cycle to work and do occasional stage rides, he was even still cycling during the early stages of his illness.
During this time I found the most incredible help and support which made my Dad’s last few days as comfortable as possible. The charity also helped Dad’s housemate (me) and family have quality time with him.
The help & support we received prevented my Dad from going into care and allowed him to stay at home in comfort with family and friends able to see him.
It’s now my turn to do something for the MNDA charity and the 100-mile bike ride through London feels like a fitting tribute to my Dad and also a meaningful way to help the Motor Neurone Disease Association in their quest to prevent others from being taken by this cruel illness.
I’m a retired goalkeeper, that in itself probably tells you how lazy I am. I signed up to this while off work with a broken foot at Xmas and on reflection I probably have been a bit ambitious, the longest duration I have done on a bike is 56 miles (4 hours and 58 mins).
As requested by the MNDA charity, I would be incredibly grateful for any publicity or donation that can be made.
