Story
My Cousin was born with a rare genetic disorder that only a few people in the world have and since then she was in and out of hospital with countless issues, any little thing was a scare and was always potentially life threatening.
She was also born with a faulty heart and had numerous operations since she was born to keep her alive. It's horrible to think and see someone that small go through heart failure. Unfortunately last year she passed away but her life was given hope and extended by the brilliant doctors and nurses at the children's heart unit in Newcastle. At 15 she was the size of a toddler but was a battler and didn't let her condition let her down! She means everything to me, without having any siblings myself she was a sister to me and I would do anything for her. I've decided along with my family this year to do a firewalk in aid of CHUF to help and support the great work the heart unit does for children and their families.
CHUF's mission is to make life better for children and young people who are born with or who develop heart conditions by providing lifelong support to them and their families. CHUF supports children and families who receive treatment at the Children’s Heart Unit based at the Freeman Hospital and the many other hospitals providing care for cardiac patients throughout the North of England.
