Story
This year I have chosen to run the London Marathon for Scottish Huntington’s Association. Huntington’s is a disease very close to home, my grandma being one of the first post mortem diagnoses in the 90s and her brother suffering from the same condition until he sadly passed in 2011. Other members of the family still have uncertain and undetermined diagnosis with others unfortunately already positive.
Huntington’s disease is a complex neurological condition with symptoms that typically begin to develop between the ages of 30 and 50.
Although worldwide research is taking place there is, at present, no cure for Huntington’s disease. However, many of its symptoms can be managed with a combination of medication, alternative therapies and appropriate support from specialist services delivered by Scottish Huntington’s Association (SHA) and medical, health, social care providers.
A small contribution to this charity will help with research, support for both patients and caregivers for those with Huntington’s. I hope that by running the London Marathon I can raise money to make a small impact on an charity that has big ambitions for the next 5 years and support people affected by this terrible disease.
