Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving Page!
During the summer of 2022, a group of university students including myself will be trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
The reason for my climb is to raise awareness and aid the Meningitis Research Foundation.
This charity aims to research and raise awareness of two serious diseases; Meningitis and Septicaemia.
Meningitis and neonatal sepsis are the second biggest infectious killer of children under the age of five on our planet!
They affect more than 5 million people every single year!
These diseases can kill you within 12 hours and are the cause for more deaths of children under 5 than malaria, measles, tetanus and AIDS combined.
The work achieved by the Meningitis Research Foundation is providing better access to vaccines and health systems that can diagnose and treat children earlier. As well as giving support to survivors of meningitis.
Thanks to the public’s support they’ve pioneered a global roadmap which brings together global expertise to defeat meningitis by 2030.
Aiding this foundation is especially close to my heart as a close friend’s family had to watch their child endure this heart-breaking illness, luckily, they had the support of the NHS to help them through these ridiculously difficult times but this was still one of the most horrific periods for this family to face.
Unfortunately, children and their families in deprived countries such as Africa must face this life-changing disease everyday whilst living in extremely poor conditions with little, if any access to medical assistance.
It is time to make Meningitis a global health priority! You can do this today by donating using the “donate” button.
I look forward to a challenge to better myself, to better other people's lives.
