Story

Lexie The Warrior Princess Walk - 5 kilometre Walk

Our perfect little daughter was born on 15th February 2020. 3 weeks into her life she took seriously ill & was left fighting for her life for 5 weeks in hospital after Strep B which led to sepsis & meningitis. A MRI scan showed the infection had caused brain damage & we were told Lexie would never walk, talk or might not even be able to smile at us. Our world came crashing down around us that our perfect innocent baby daughters life had been destroyed by STREP B, something that I had never heard of or never been told about & something that could of been easily prevented.

Lexie is now 16 months old & is doing amazing, she is our very own little miracle. She has defied all medical science & is WALKING, most of all she is such a happy little girl and full of life.

We count our blessings every day that Lexie is still with us & has such a bright future ahead of her. She has been extremely lucky as unfortunately many of the babies who suffer like Lexie gain their angel wings or are left severely disabled.

In July, which is Strep B awareness month, Lexie is walking 1 kilometre for every week she spent in hospital fighting for her life in aid of the Group B Strep Support charity to try and help prevent more innocent babies gaining their angel wings or their lives being destroyed by this deadly disease.

Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. On average in the UK, at least-two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection -one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and-one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities – physical, mental or both.Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
