Story
Hi friends! I am excited to be running the NYC half in March for an awesome charity called Good Grief, which provides support & resources to children and young adults who have lost a parent or sibling.
I am running in loving memory of my very best friend, guiding force, and biggest advocate in life - my mom (Joni B). Words will never able to convey the millions of things she was in her lifetime; a humble yet badass superwoman, a wise and generous soul people of all ages came to for advice, and a relentless volunteer are just a few that come to mind. Above all of these roles, she taught me what it means to love, to be kind, and to persevere in life.
As everyone reminds me, she was truly one of a kind and is missed beyond measure by so many. It's been nearly 7 years and I still reach for the phone to call her, unable to grasp how this became our life - but we find comfort in hearing constant new stories of how she touched the lives of all she knew.
Grief is something we don't talk about enough - it's awkward and hard, but it's also so important and something we will all experience in our lifetime. Losing my mom changed both who I was as a person and how I saw and understood the world. Being able to share stories of my mom and access support resources has been important in my journey, so I am very excited to support Good Grief in their efforts to do the same.
The race is also on my mom's birthday (3/19). Some of you know she was training for a half at the time of her passing - I figured no better way to celebrate her this year.
Will be internalizing the sound of my mom's famous cowbell at xc meets and screaming to "toughen up, lady" during the race. Thank YOU to you all for the thoughts and donations <3
