To raise money for Paignton Zoo Environmental Park and the EAZA Ape Campaign I will be spending 24 hours living on the Gorilla Island at the zoo - eating only the diet that is usually fed to the Great Apes and being on show to the public.

The EAZA Ape Campaign aims to raise money 1 Million Euro, to save our closest living relatives: gibbons, orang-utans, gorillas, chimps and bonobos.  Apes are in danger of extinction due to three main factors: 1) habitat loss; 2) illegal trade and increasingly, 3) disease problems. 

Money raised will fund 4 conservation programmes which will make meaningful contributions to saving all five apes (see: http://www.apecampaign.org/projects) and also enable the creation of a long-lasting foundation to support future conservation activities.

I have never done anything like this before, and anybody who knows me will understand how much of a challenge it will be for me to only eat fruit and vegetables for 24 hours! In addition to this part of the challenge I will be working on enrichment usually given to the apes and other animals as well as other activities to educate people about these great animals and hopefully provide some sort of entertainment!
