Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Natalie, Irene and June are preparing to do the Women's 10K in Glasgow on Sunday the 12th May 2013. We are raising money for the fifth consecutive year for the Let Us Shine Charity.(www.letusshine.org).
In 2013 the money we raise will help to buy much needed curriculum textbooks and teaching resources for the new Let Us Shine High School.
Over the past four years we have managed to raise over £2000 which has helped build a new classroom and accommodation block as well as construct a water bore hole so that the girls have access to clean water.
The Let Us Shine charity's founder and director is Fiona Marra, a pharmacist from Glasgow. Her passion for universal education for all and the desire to see children reach their potential, formulated the structure and driving force behind the projects now carried out by Let Us Shine. Her commitment to the charity means that no one in the UK receives a salary, all money raised is invested into the projects in Ghana.
Let Us Shine opened its first project in Ghana with the Let Us Shine Kpandai Girls school. Kpandai (pronounced Pand-eye) is a small town situated in the very poor Northern Region of Ghana. Children begin farming from the age of 3 and less than ten percent of children in this area make it to high school. Class sizes in schools that do exist exceed 120 and often seventy percent are male. The government do supplement early education but it is not enough for most families with an average of seven children per family some with some children with as many as 12-13 siblings.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us. Let Us Shine gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Please sponsor us.
Thank you,
Natalie, Irene and June.
