In Memory of
This is in memory of two brilliant people who died too young.
My friend Simon Joss Perry who died in April 2013 at the age of 35. Joss was a very special person who had many friends in London, Leicester and beyond. He had an irreverent, sometimes childlike approach to life, a Leicester City FC obsessive, and loved talking politics and support the Labour party. He also battled with depression and anxiety and had low times where he struggled to find a way beyond.
Vince Sipprell, who died in 2015. I was incredibly fortunate to put on a number of let's go baboon shows where Vince performed (sublimely) with Geese, Screamer on the Hill, Adrian Crowley, Adem and many others. Always someone who was brilliantly funny & sharp who had a massive impact on many many people through music and friendship.
These are your friends
The title of the shows - These are your friends - is taken from a beautiful song by Adem, a performer who Vince played alongside several times. The song has resonated with me since through from watching Adem (together with Vince) performing it, to listening to it as my first child was born.
The song has attached a much deeper resonance following the death of Joss and Vince. The CALM cause is something that aims to be there to support men and also change and push for improved policy around mental health to prevent suicide.
Over the years of running Let's go baboon (since 2004) I have realised how fragile and important mental health is and just how important music and gigs have been to me in terms of friendships, creativity and supporting each other. This year I have an opportunity to deliver these shows and will make every effort to make it work.
Please donate if you can and head to the shows.
Thank you, Stuart x
