We support people affected by bipolar to manage their condition in everyday life

Story

Hi folks... we're April and Sara...

'av a gander: https://www.facebook.com/ActingOnADream/videos/607634710097161/

April is the ambassador for Bipolar UK and Sara is her carer, the Thelma to her Louise and together we want to help erase the stigma around bipolar disorder.

Bipolar is a severe mental health condition characterised by significant mood swings including manic highs and depressive lows.

The most recent research shows us that 3 people living with bipolar disorder take their own lives each day.

This desperately sad statistic needs to be brought down and we can only do that together, that's how we tackle each of our days - together.

All of our mental health is taking a battering during these scary, uncertain times, and the charities are seeing an unprecedented surge of people in need. That's why we're teaming up for the 2.6 Challenge all the way through to Mental Health Week from 18th - 24th May.

We're going to be doing a lot of silly things and will no doubt make fools out of ourselves, but we propose this, to you all… Walking 2.6 miles in someone else's shoes or, if that’s not possible, walking 2.6 miles with your shoes on the wrong feet.

Yes, this sounds trivial, but when someone asks me what it feels like to have bipolar, one of the things I say is that it’s like putting your shoes on the wrong feet - it works but isn’t comfortable. Every single person is being affected by COVID-19, there’s no denying that, we’re witnessing heroic acts of kindness around the world and insights into the lives of those we ordinarily wouldn’t see. So, “before you judge a man, (well person)… walk a mile in their shoes”

No donation is too small, whether it’s 20p, £2.60, £26 or £260, you won’t believe what can help in these times. If you can’t donate, don’t worry - we have a lot going on right now. The mental health crisis will continue long after we’ve beaten this virus. All we ask is you check in on your people, today, tomorrow and everyday.

All our love,

April & Sara xx
