Story
Just after Zoe’s 2nd birthday in October she was diagnosed Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that makes it hard for children to speak. Children with the diagnosis of apraxia of speech generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say. However, they have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex movements that underlie speech.
This will be a lifelong battle for Zoe as she learns to talk. She is currently in speech therapy twice a week and will increase as she gets older. After six months of therapy Zoe has learned to say Mama, dada, up, bye, and hi clearly enough to be understood.
We are fundraising for research and education for speech language pathologists to better understand this disorder and treat kiddos like Zoe to give them their voice.
