Story
Although it will be tough, I will be walking a 40km
ultra marathon at Elk Lake this May to raise funds for needed cardiac care equipment and to promote healthy living for people living with diabetes. I will be raising funds towards a Stress Test System for Cardiac Electrodiagnostics for the Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH). Cardiac equipment is critical for many people including those living with diabetes.
I’ve been living with type 1 diabetes for 47 years. When I needed cardiac interventions, the RJH was there for me. I was able to get back to running, cycling and walking – grateful to have such great medical care.
Cardiac equipment is important for people living with diabetes because people with diabetes can develop heart disease 15 years earlier than those without diabetes. In BC, People with diabetes are over three times more likely to be hospitalized with cardiovascular disease.
If heart, stroke or diabetes are something you support, I’d be grateful for any help you can give to support my campaign. No amount is too small. Cheers are also welcome as I train through the winter months!
Annually, over 200,000 Vancouver Island residents undergo cardiac assessments, and more than 6,300 cardiac procedures are performed through Royal Jubilee Hospitals Heart Health program. The RJH is a world leader in cardiac care and with your support, we can continue to have access to top doctors and leading-edge care right here in Victoria. On behalf of the Cardiac Care team, thank you so much for your donations and support. We are all truly grateful. Learn more at: www.victoriahf.ca/cardiac-care/
