Story
Although it will be tough, I will be running a half marathon as well as 10k and 5k races (The Ottawa Marathon Voyageur Challenge - 3 races all in one month) to raise $2,021 funds to support the important cardiology care at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, specifically towards echocardiography ultrasounds. The Victoria Hospitals Foundation (VHF) is in need of portable echocardiography ultrasounds to analyze and diagnose heart function so that cardiac patients receive proper care and treatment.
I've been living with type 1 diabetes for 45 years. Last year, when I needed emergency cardiac interventions, the medical team was there for me.
I spent several days in the hospital, connected to various monitors. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get back to running and cycling. Although I'm on 7 heart related medications for life, in addition to life saving insulin, with their support, I have been able to get back to my normal activities. And, I feel healthy. For that I am grateful. The VHF supports critical work including COVID care, endocrinology care for my type 1 diabetes and cardiology.
Thanks so much for your financial and moral support. Please cheer me on in this challenge! Leslie Ann
