Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for the 'Make a Wish Foundation', I have paid £1,000 for my expenses which along with the training and completing the event is my contribution to this fabulous charity. I have pledged to raise £2,000 for them and my deadline for the 1st £1,000 is 20th June, I am not a natural fundraiser and don't ask for money easily so I feel a little cheeky, I know we all have our own priorities and drains on our finances and I would be grateful for any contributions.

This may be my last fundraising event, I'm getting too old! I am not a cyclist although I have had a mountain bike for many years. I now have a wonderful road bike and all the gear. The challenge is Lands End to John O'Groats in 9 days, 930 miles in 9 days, am I daft or not good at maths, that is just over 100 miles each day for 9 days! The ride starts on 31st August 2013 from Lands End, that will be 5 years since my mam died after an operation which was supposed to improve her life. I had breast cancer way back in 1996 and that experience made me appreciate life, since then I have made my own special memories and met many wonderful people and lost many people I loved, many who I would never have met but for the cancer experience. We all have mountains to climb in our lives, and I have fantastic memories of climbing actual mountains and overcoming challenges in everyday life. I have raised many thousands of pounds for charities, the British Heart Foundation, Breast Cancer Care, Cancer Research UK, St.Theresa's Hospice to name a few, running, abseiling, trekking and climbing mountains, now I'm challenging myself to something completely out of my comfort zone, please help.

The 'Make a Wish Foundation' gives children who have life threatening and limiting conditions (and their families and friends) the chance to make their own special memories by granting them their wishes. I feel very lucky and blessed not to know of a child who would need this charity, I know that when I see and hear about the work that they do, I cry. Life is for creating memories, memories which we can hold close when those we love are no longer with us, memories that we create by living our lives and embracing challenges.
