Story

I am Lesley Miller and my mission is to raise awareness of domestic violence issues and to raise funds for the charity Women's Aid and Mankind Initiative. One in four women (and one in six men) will experience domestic violence over their life and between six and ten per cent of women suffer domestic violence in any given year. Domestic violence can happen to absolutely anyone regardless of age, class, occupation or culture. There are some widely held misconceptions that must be challenged. Everybody knows somebody who is experiencing domestic abuse. It ruins lives. It breaks hearts and incidentally it costs businesses thousands of pounds a year.

My mission is to raise money for Women's Aid and Mankind Initiative by hosting a range of ongoing art exhibitions. The first event was held at South Street Art Gallery in Isleworth on Lower Square. In attendance was MP (before the election)Mary Macleod, Councillor Sue Sampson, MP Ruth Cadbury, Councillor Ed Mayne and the Shadow Home Office Minister for Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls, Seema Malhotra, the chairman of Mankind Initiative.... and the Mayor of Hounslow.  Then there were my wonderful, supportive and kind friends.

I did some things ok on the fundraising front (Mankind Initiative donations go to BT Donate because they don't have a page on here).

'Nudes' the exhibition is happening this September and I am producing the calendar. It's very tame and paintings are done in soft pastel. All proceeds from the calendar to be split again. I think I have a better idea of what I am doing now. ;-D

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported in any way. It is very much appreciated.

Lesley
