Story
In April 2021, 2 little beautiful boys graced this earth. Little did we know, they are true miracles with strength and bravery we never knew existed 💙
Their names are Leo and Oliver 💚💚
Oliver came first...Then 12 days later came Leo. Here are their stories so far...
Surprisingly for us, Oliver arrived 3 months early weighing less than a bag of sugar. Since Oliver's early arrival, it hasn't been plain sailing for him. As well as all of the challenges prematurity brings, in February 2022 he was also diagnosed with a very rare life threatening genetic condition called Diamond Blackfan Anaemia. This condition effects the bone marrow, and in Olivers case, it means he can't make his own red blood cells so relies on blood donors and requires a blood transfusion every 4 weeks. He's just turned 2 years old and has had 31 blood transfusions so far. Despite having way over 100 hospital appointments, surgery, procedures, being poked and prodded he still continues to be cheeky, confident and the happiest soul.
Leo was born a happy healthy little boy, then devastatingly in January 2023 was diagnosed with a Kidney Tumour. As you can imagine, this devastating diagnosis turned our whole families life upside down.
However, the one person it hasn't phased is Leo. Despite undergoing countless procedures, major surgeries, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and isolating away from all his friends and family, he has not stopped smiling and being his fun little self showing us how much of a little warrior he is!
Leo and Olivers Dads (Sam and John) have been best friends since they were kids themselves. Being there for each other through thick and thin, and even each others best men at their weddings. Heartbreakingly, they would never think their first born children would be playing in hospital together receiving treatment - but so grateful they have the support from each other, their friends and family. And the hospital where their sons receive treatment... Alder Hey (especially the Oncology & Hematology team on ward 3B) have been with Leo, Oliver and their families through every step of their battle so far and we want to give back as much as we can to show our appreciation.
We also wanted to show our support to Leo and Oliver, show we will fight and battle for them, knowing whatever life throws at them, we will be by their side every step of the way. Which is why we have embarked on the Coniston Triathlon.
A 10km Trek, 17km Bike & a 3km Kayak are what we are facing and we are doing this with the goal of raising as much money and awareness as possible
Due to the amazing support received so far we have decided to increase the target from £3000 to £5000! Thank you all so much for your donations!
