Story

Greetings and many thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I believe that once in a lifetime every one of us has a chance to do something truly life changing. For me that chance has arrived.

In September this year I shall begin the 1-year Professional Acting course at ALRA (the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts) in London.

The course is intensive and is split over four terms.  I will receive classes in the core fundamentals of Acting, Voice and Movement as well as participate in screen and radio projects. I will also work on 19th and early 20th century plays as well as Shakespeare.

I have been lucky enough to receive a Dance and Drama Award (DaDA), which will cover the majority of my fees. DaDA’s are awarded by schools to those students who display the most potential to succeed in the profession. The bursary however will not cover my cost of living and as the course involves 100% contact time, I will have limited opportunities to take on any substantial part time work.

As I shall be moving from my family in Edinburgh, living at home will not be an option. When adding up all I shall be spending on Fees, Rent, Food, Bills, Travel and Course Equipment, I estimate the cost for me to live in London for the year shall be around £8,000.00. This is the amount I hope you can help me raise.

Any amount, no matter how big or small will be gratefully received.  Any monies donated on this site will go directly to ALRA, which is a registered charity. ALRA will then dispense your donations directly to me when I need them.  Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. However, please be advised that every donation made will incur a transaction fee, so please check the information before donating! For sponsorship money already raised I would like to say thank you to my parents, The Royal British Legion Scotland, Annan Branch, John Roddick and Son Solicitors, Annan, and the employees of Sykes Global Services, Edinburgh.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

About the charity

ALRA (The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts ) is recognised in the acting industry for producing highly professional actors who are passionate about their craft, and although we teach all aspects of live and recorded performance we are known for offering an exemplary training in screen acting. ALRA is an established member of the Conference of Drama Schools and it is our policy to nurture the students' strengths and individual qualities. The main source of funding for ALRA students is the Dance and Drama Award. These grants dramatically reduce tuition fees but are only available to 60% of the students. Those not in receipt of a DaDa are expected to find their tuition fees and living expenses independently, which can often make the course unaffordable. Another financial difficulty is that none of our students is eligible for student loans. As a result, most work at weekends and during holidays in an attempt to supplement their income. As it is extremely difficult to meet the costs of living in London they inevitably resort to taking out substantial bank loans. Financial pressure is an unwelcome distraction which causes students' work to suffer. You can help ALRA students to fulfil their dreams by making a donation today!
