Aspire Channel Swim 2017 11/09/17 - 04/12/17 · 4 December 2017 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

You all know how much I love to swim...well now I am taking on 22 miles, over twelve weeks, to raise money for Aspire - a national charity that works with people who have spinal cord injuries to create opportunity, independence and choice.

With a spinal cord injury there is no warning, no preventative medicine, and no time to prepare. I cannot imagine how that must feel and will probably think about that every time I kick off from the side of the pool.

Aspire receive no statutory funding, so every penny raised through the Channel Swim helps with the work that Aspire does - whether that is providing accessible housing to people leaving hospital, direct advice and support from those with lived-experience or grants which give people access to the essential equipment they need, it's all valuable and potentially life-changing stuff.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the support and i'll see you on the other side...
