So let’s start with a question... do you actually know much about MND? If you think about Motor Neuron Disease you just think of Stephen Hawking right? Who’s been alive for years?! The truth about MND is that it is a progressive disease in which in half of cases life expectancy is between 2-5 years.
I don’t want to depress you but below are the basic facts about what the disease is.
Motor neurone disease occurs when specialist nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord called motor neurones stop working properly. Motor neurones control important muscle activity, such as: gripping, walking, speaking, swallowing and breathing. These simple activities that we all take for granted, become increasingly difficult, and then eventually impossible to do. It can happen at any time, young or old.
The truth is there is no cure for MND. The treatment is trying to make the person feel comfortable and have the best quality of life possible, while also compensate for the progressive loss of bodily functions such as mobility, communication, swallowing and breathing.
Money raised for MND will go towards giving people a better quality of life and help families care for their loved ones.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I really appreciate it and it is important to me that more awareness is raised.
