Story
I am cycling the 1000 miles LEJOG over 10 days.
What?!
At the start of lockdown I had a knee operation to fix a meniscal tear - the resultant lack of exercise coupled with a developing chocolate digestive addiction during work from home prompted me to do something about getting fit again... So, at the start of June I purchased a bike on eBay and set off into the Chilterns. 1,400km later, and I am now in the midst of an epic journey on the bike with three other excellent riders - Casper Jack, Cameron Jack and Angus McNab closely followed by a support camper van driven by the very capable Emma Thurston (in case of Covid related accommodation issues) from Land's End to John O'Groats.
So, why am I doing this for charity? As I was entering my 1000th km of riding and starting to think about doing a long ride, my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's.
Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that leads to shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with walking, balance, and coordination. Parkinson's symptoms usually begin gradually and get worse over time. As the disease progresses, people may have difficulty walking and talking.
While medicines, surgical treatment, and other therapies can often relieve some symptoms, today there is no cure. I want the fundraising from my ride to help with research for a cure.
