Story

Doing crazy challenges is in my DNA so what better way to make the most of this than to use it to raise money for charity.

Having done the Marathon Des Sables in + 40 degrees C, now is my chance to see if I can survive a challenge in - 40 degrees C.

The Siberian Black Ice Race involves cycling the length of Lake Baikal which lies in Eastern Siberia and spans 600km. It is a self sufficient race and hence I have to carry everything I need for the race with me on my bike.

You can follow my preparation and journey on www.marialeijerstam.blogspot.com

Please help to make this challenge one that will also help thousands of people who are effected by Alzheimer's.

The Alzheimer's Society is important to me because my grandmother died of it many years ago and now my boyfriend's father is also suffering. I really really want to do all I can to help this charity raise vital funds to go towards working on a cure as well as medicines that will ease the pain of living with the disease.

Thank you for your support!

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.
