Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm currently challenging myself to build a 100-piece Lego version of the University of Edinburgh’s Main Library, George Square. Taking inspiration from Captain Tom Moore, I’ve set my parts limit to only 100 Lego elements.
My sight loss journey
Following five major eye surgeries I’ve been using Lego building as part of my rehabilitation. I now have permanent vision loss in my right eye and this activity is helping with poor depth perception. Read more about my sight loss journey on my personal website – https://stubot.me
The University of Edinburgh
I recently completed a larger microscale version of the Main Library with over 500 pieces which you can see featured on this page. I've worked at the University of Edinburgh for over 23 years and this is always my favourite building to visit.
My chosen charity is Sight Scotland
For more than 225 years, Sight Scotland have been supporting people with sight loss and blindness. They are one of Scotland's oldest charities and are dedicated to empowering people with visual impairments to lead fulfilling lives.
What your donation could buy
- £10 could buy an adapted dinner plate to reduce the stress of eating.
- £12 could provide information and advice in an accessible format for a visually impaired person.
- £29 could buy an ultra-light cane.
Build your own Main Library
My photos and instructions of both final models will be free to download from my website. They will available to everyone, regardless of whether you make a donation (this is an explicit requirement so we qualify for Gift Aid). They’ll also be open licensed to encourage everyone to share, reuse and remix.
Heartfelt thanks
Thank you for reading about my fundraising challenge and hope you’ll consider sponsoring me.
Best wishes, Stewart Lamb Cromar (@stubot)
