Story
On Friday 29th May starting at about 5pm we will be running a very different kind of Marathon. Our mission is to run 1 mile an hour every hour for 24 hours! Raising money for charity around the clock. Founder of Essential Print Services and Marketing Derby Board Member; Yvonne Gorman, together with her husband, Jim Leafe, will be taking on a lockdown challenge to raise vital funds for fellow Bondholder; me&dee charity. The pair will run one mile, on the hour, every hour for 24 hours starting on Friday 29th May at 7pm. Mr & Mrs Leafe have been long-standing supporters of the me&dee charity and Yvonne's business has been a Platinum Sponsor for well over a year, which also helps the charity by supplying discounted and where possible, free, print. This has been invaluable to the charity, as Maria Hanson MBE, founder of me&dee charity, discussed: “As a charity, it is essential that we form partnerships with businesses who are engaged with our organisation. Not only is Essential Print Services engaged with me&dee charity but, they have been enthusiastic ambassadors for several years. They support our charity in several ways; they are Platinum Sponsors, they supply us with discounted print services and I can call upon them for ideas and advice.” Since 2011, when Yvonne Gorman formed the company, the ethos of giving back has always been at the heart of the business, with a strong emphasis placed on ensuring that everything contributes to towards this goal and benefits the wider community. The most recent steps have been supporting local charities and furthering the company’s work with not-for-profit organisations. Yvonne added, "my husband and I are looking forward to this challenge and I, in particular, cannot wait to see what it's like running during the twilight hours. We will be posting photos and videos live during the 24 hours on our Just Giving Page. We know times are tough for everyone right now, but, please donate whatever you can to support this amazing charity." Jim said "the challenge has been inspired by a YouTuber called Beau Miles who did this himself about 1 year ago in Australia ever since I have wanted to do it and now is the perfect time especially now we are allowed to exercise as much as we want under the government guidance. I guess they did not have this in mind but we have picked some quiet routes and will of course adhere to social distancing. In the first 2 hours I will be topping up my miles so that by the end of the 24 hour period we will have completed the marathon distance of 26.21 miles".
