Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In 2018, we decided our time had come to run the best Marathon in the world, The London Marathon, and we were both thrilled and privileged to be accepted by Brain Tumour Research to be part of the London team.
Fast forward 4 years, with a couple of London's (and other races under our belt) we continue to be a part of the wonderful team and, not only run with the famous pink vest on, but we also coach the rest of the amazing BTR runners to make sure they have a truly memorable London run, they actually enjoy it, and are well prepared for it, both physically and mentally.
We lost my (Lee) Brother, Graham on 4th January 1999 aged just 45 to a devastating brain tumour. What we witnessed Graham go through in the 11 months from diagnosis to his passing was something that will never leave us. Even now, almost 25 years later, it's as fresh in our mind and hearts as if it was yesterday. So, our goal as a family is to do whatever we can to help others not go through the same as Graham did, and the same as us, his family, went through with him.
Of course, the wider purpose of Brain Tumour Research is to raise money so that continuous funding of the incredibly clever people working in the labs can break the barriers down and find a cure. Will that happen in our lifetime, we don't know, but even if a significant breakthrough in treatment can be found that eases the heavy burden of harsh treatment and gives suffers a longer and better standard of life, then our efforts are worth every ounce of our time and energy.
Brain Tumours are a cancer and they account for more deaths in children and adults under 40 than any other type of cancer. A stunning fact that most people just don't know. But, even with that staggering fact, the government still contributes less than 1% of their cancer funding to brain tumours. LESS THAN 1%.
In all consciousness, we just can't sit back and do nothing, so we will do all we can to help. For Graham, for the children, for the young adults who suffer, and for the families who have to live with after effects for years afterwards.
We hope you can help us, help them.
Thank You xx
