Story

In January 2014, Lee was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma (after errors that resulted in a misdiagnosis the previous year).  Unfortunately, Melanoma is extremely aggressive and Lee was diagnosed at a very late stage.  Lee however, was determined to beat this horrific disease and remained positive, strong and courageous up until the very end of his life. On 9th April 2015, our beloved Lee lost his battle to Metastatic Melanoma (nearly 15 months after being diagnosed and aged just  24 years).

Lee was truly an inspiration; he accepted his diagnosis with dignity, grace and strength!  Despite having to endure surgery to remove his lymph glands, chemotherapy, immunotherapies/clinicaltrials (ipilimumab and nivolumab) and brain surgery to remove a large tumour, Lee never demonstrated self-pity. Instead, he continually put others before himself and remained positive throughout, forever smiling and joking. He never complained, but remained hopeful that he could one day beat his illness and fulfil his many plans forthe future.

Our lives will never be the same without Lee, for he was truly irreplaceable and such a very special person, loved by so many; such a genuine kind and thoughtful person who touched the lives and hearts of everyone he met. Lee will never ever be forgotten.

On Sunday 19th June 2016, Dave (Lee’s dad) and a group of Lee’s family and friends are running the BTR Mersey Tunnel 10k to raise money for CLIC Sargent. The level of fitness in the group varies drastically and a lot of effort has been required in order to enter the race!!   CLIC Sargent  offered support for Lee throughout his illness and we know he would now want us to help other young people like himself who have battles with cancer to face.

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. They provide clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life. They aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in some cases, bereavement.

The charity’s vision is to enable children and young people with cancer to live life to the full.  As soon as Lee was diagnosed, CLIC Sargent provided continuous and invaluable support to ensure Lee was free from financial worries whilst undergoing treatment.  They provided him with grants, advised on benefits he was entitled to and provided both emotional and practical support not just to Lee, but also his family. When the treatment and cancer prevented Lee from working, the financial support from CLIC Sargent enabled Lee to continue to live a ‘normal life’, goon a ‘lads’ holiday to Amsterdam and go for meals (his favorite thing to do!).  On numerous occasions CLIC Sargent also offered Lee the opportunity to make his dreams come true eg. A holiday with family/friends,a short break away, go to a boxing match or even go in the executive box at Liverpool or Everton Football club. However, typical of Lee’s altruistic nature, he declined stating “there are others who need it more than me!”

Please show your support by donating to CLIC Sargent in memory of Lee Foster. Any donation will be greatly appreciated!
