Story
We are Leeds Citizens, an alliance of faith, education, charity and community organisations working together for justice in our city, as part of Citizens UK. In response to the Covid-19 crisis, we are supporting our communities and vulnerable families with the many urgent needs arising.
Our recent listening campaign has highlighted an urgent need to support vulnerable children and families who are struggling with the challenges of parenting in lockdown conditions.
The types of responses we are fundraising for include the South Leeds Lockdown Challenge - a support package for families with children to help spark creativity, reduce stress and promote wellbeing. It has been launched by local community organisations who have come together to address the issues raised in our listening campaign.
Funds we raise will ensure that each family receives a free activity and resource pack containing 14 days worth of activities on a variety of themes including exercise, gardening, craft, cooking, creative writing, art and yoga relaxation.
The packs will contain a “Challenge Sheet” with instructions, arts and craft supplies and all the materials needed to complete each activity.
The programme has been enabled by the contributions of volunteers drawn from a range of organisations including: Re-establish youth group; Life Experience; St Luke's Church; Beeston Festival; Space Youth group; Ingram Road Primary School; Jamyang Buddhist Centre; Beeston in Bloom; Slung Low; LS11 Mutual Aid group; Kidz Klub; Involve and St Mary's Church.
If there are any leftover funds, they will go towards supporting any smaller, struggling member organisations to continue community organising with Leeds Citizens over the next year.
Thank you for your donations - please share this page with people you know.
If you are from a member organisation and want to know about how you can replicate the Lockdown Challenge in your area or require any other support from us as organisers, please contact becky.howcroft@leedscitizens.org.uk.
