Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
King's College Hospital is one of the UK's leading centres for cancer research, and I've been lucky to benefit from their care.
I have CLL, a chronic form of leukaemia which causes white blood cells to go a little barmy. With the aid of four cycles of chemotherapy the cancer is thankfully now in check, although the side effects of treatment continue for the moment.
Having cancer is scary, but knowing I have access to amazing staff both at my local hospital at Medway Maritime and through them to the team at Kings has made it so much easier.
Particular thanks to the fabulous chemotherapy unit team, the FLAIR clinical trial nurses and consultant team at Kings, and Macmillan nurses and consultant team at Medway who have kept me going since diagnosis in January 2020, explaining, supporting and reassuring me every step of the way.
Having cancer brings home just how amazing the NHS is and how it is there for us all when we need it most. Together we took the impact of the pandemic in our stride, and I had a much better experience than might have otherwise been the case.
With treatment now complete, at least for now, I wanted to do something to raise a little money for them, while also restoring my voom. There was a time when I could run for a bit, including three marathons. Hoping to do the same again by the time of the London Landmarks Half Marathon next year.
I had hoped to do this year’s event but need more time to recover from treatment so reluctantly took the decision to defer. I intend to spend the coming months continuing to promote the fabulous work of Kings where I can and raise more so they can continue to offer the best care and carry out world beating research to help people like me.
Please donate if you have a couple of pounds spare.
Thanks. Stay brilliant.
